VOLUME 69 DECEMBER 2017 NUMBER 12
HOLY COMMUNION IS CELEBRATED EVERY SUNDAY
ADVENT! The Latin word means a time of new beginning and anticipation. It is the beginning of a new church year. Will it be more of the same? Our world has continued its slide into hopelessness, immorality, and despair. Is there any GOOD NEWS out there?
Distressing as our world's condition must be to God, His love is so great that He has not given up on us - yet. The Advent season reminds us that God is doing something to save and redeem His people - God is sending a Savior, Jesus, The Christ! He offers a time for repentance, forgiveness, and renewal.
Will this Advent Season be that time for you? Will you heed God's call? The Old Testament prophets would regularly call the nation to show signs of their acceptance of God's grace and mercy. We show those signs by first accepting God's grace through reception of Jesus' body and blood, "...given and shed for you...," in the Sacrament of Holy Communion, The Sacrament of Holy Communion should never be a ritualistic, meaningless, thoughtless act. It is a sign that you "accept God's terms" for a new life with a new, cleansed spirit. Will you accept that gift today?

SHEPHERD OF THE STREETS
A MESSAGE FROM SHEPHERD OF THE STREETS - The ministry receives no State or Federal funds, but only contributions from people and churches. The last four months have been difficult. The cost of nearly everything (especially medicine) has gone up and the economy has gone down. At the SOS office they have ceased some help-programs, taken cuts in personal financial involvement, and have plans for cutting some other programs with medical and safety emphasis. For you who have faithfully given, they are most appreciative. For you who will give in this winter season, they are grateful and they thank you even now for your support to help us achieve their mission. Be assured that your donation will be used to help with medicine, glasses, safe practices, and work-entry needs. Please donate thru Bethany Church office. They will still be giving out hygiene kits: toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream razors, shampoo, conditioner, women's hygiene products, towels, wash cloths, bedding, tissues, toilet paper, blankets, soap, deodorant, combs, baby diapers, baby shampoo, baby oil, baby Q-tips, baby wipes, baby powder.
