VOLUME 72                                           MARCH 2020                                             NUMBER 3

HOLY COMMUNION IS CELEBRATED EVERY SUNDAY
The Lenten Season is a time in which we are called to consider our need for a renewed relationship with Jesus Christ.  Our sins, so lightly considered at other times, re-focus in a vivid, dramatic way the seriousness of our disobedience and distance from the love of God.  The Sacrament of Holy Communion is a most visible sign of God's great love and mercy calling us back to Him.  The Bread and cup are offered to us, inviting us to participate and welcome His saving grace into our bodies and souls.  "Greater has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.  You are my friends if you obey my commandments."  (John 15:13).

Jesus has invited us all to come to His Table, and to receive His loving gift of forgiveness.  This is you invitation to commune with your brothers and sisters in Christ.  Will you come?

SHEPHERD OF THE STREETS
Shepherd of the Streets is a Christian ministry with the emphasis on medical issues that abruptly invade people's lives.  They not only help with payments for medicine, supplies, and transportation, but they help with a person's ability to cope with immediate and long-term inflictions.  Your support for this very vital ministry helps keep matters from getting worse, and/or assists in the healing or dying process.
Thank you for your donation of hygiene items, baby needs, and/or bedding.  Almost every person who comes through their doors is blessed by one or more of the hygiene items you send.  Items needed:  toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, razors, shampoo, conditioner, women's hygiene products, towels/wash cloths, bedding, blankets, tissues, toilet paper, paper towels, soap, deodorant, combs, baby diapers, baby shampoo, baby oil, baby Q-tips, baby wipes, baby powder.

BACKPACK PROGRAM
They began packing for the program in August of 2018 serving 60 children with weekend bags of food.  They increased the number in January 2019 to serve 80 students and followed this by increasing the number to 120 students.  In September, they had a request to increase the serving number to 131 students each weekend and finally their wishes are to increase in 2020 to 150 students.  This will take it to packing 600 bags of weekend food once a month.  These bags are then given to the school in large plastic bins and handed out privately to the students from the counselors.  If you are aware of a student in the Montoursville School District that is not getting these items and could benefit from the program, please contact their school counselor.  The school counselor will then follow through with their household adult.  When it came time to pack in August for September items, they were very short.  They discovered that over the summer their contributions had drastically decreased.  It is important that you know they will need to get ready in the summer for the August packing and to collect even in the summer.
